gotye: somebody that i used to know

Hello again! Have you almost forgotten about me? I'm still here, and I have something to show you.

I saw this for the first time this morning and I've watched it probably 12 or 13 times since then. I love everything, everything, everything about this music video and about this song. It's by a Belgian-Australian singer/songwriter who goes by the stage name Gotye (interestingly, pronounced gore-ti-yeah. Hmm.) and it features a beautiful and powerfully voiced Kiwi singer/songwriter by the name of Kimbra.

This video doesn't leave me bored for one second. I especially love the interaction between the two of them in the second half of the video. It is reactive and heartfelt.. and brings in both sides of the story, and leaves you feeling a little confused, just like a relationship! Haha. But even his solo section in the first half just plain captivates me.

I think I'm in love with him. I love the way his face moves. Is that a weird thing to say?

Gonna watch it once more, then get to sleeping. Look at the time, for Pete's sake!!

steve and his pictures

I have so many talented friends! I've just been absolutely loving and highly impressed with my friend Steve's photography skillz the last little while. Seems like it's out of no where, but probably not. Anyway, he's shooting life in film, and I just get so happy to see what he posts on Facebook. Check it, dudes.

That's the life right there, no?

I see these and I'm like THESEBEAUTIFULPEOPLEAREMYFRIENDS! Greatest.

By the way, the subject a few of these photos is Steve's beautiful and amazingly sweet girlfriend, Melissa. She's the best. Keep em coming friend!

how could i not?

Saw these little fellows in ties playing the cello outside the grocery store yesterday.
Of course I donated.
How could I not?
Do you know me?

Look at those little fingers on that little cello.
And that sign.

Well done fellas. You got my cash.

gravity

Someone did an audition to this song last night on So You Think You Can Dance, and it reminded me how much I love this routine. This performance. Specifically. You might already know, but just in case you don't, this was choreographed by Mia Michaels and is meant to show the struggle with addiction. Kayla and Kupono are two incredible dancers who put such reality into this performance. Her face. His face. The way she tries to move, but is always "corrected" + how she's never actually bound, just manipulated is gorgeous and so moving. Sometimes Mia isn't my cup of tea precisely, but I love her. In this case she is absolutely genius.

The most stirring dance I've ever seen, it moves me to tears each time I watch it.

Absolutely my favorite dance from the entire show.

nailed it!

Alright, so I showcased probably my least favorite nails out there. Now comes the time, my friends, for my the most favorite! Be warned: This post probably should have been broken up into smaller, more "palatable" posts, but alas, 'twasn't.

First things first, if you've any interest in this subject, whether to attempt it yourself, or just sit in amazement at the creativity of these ladies, I'm going to give you a list of great nailspirations I've discovered in the last few days.

SUPA NAILS
Seriously, seriously phemonenal, the Supa Nails Tumblr is run by an illustrator named Susa in Berlin.

Rediculously impressive right? And check this out. She also  recreates inspirational street art!!
Whaaaaat?!
By the way, make sure you click the images to see all the detail that goes into this!

Inspired by works of Mymo in Berlin.

POLISHED PAWS UP
Speaking of taking inspiration for nail art, Polished Paws Up has some fun and impressive interperatations of things Lady Gaga. Here are a few favorite Monster Manicures:

LACQUERIZED
This nail polish fanatic really knows her stuff. She gives great tips, links+videos of wonderful tutorials, does side-by-side visual comparisons and reviews of nail polishes and I cannot fathom how on Earth she is so impeccably tidy!

She provides an illustrated step-by-step version of her technique here. I still don't think I could ever do it as well as she does.

Another thing. Nail stamps? I had no idea. Check out her tutorial here. (I wanna get my hands on a houndstooth stamp.)

One of her comparisons.
Holographic nail polish? Whoa.
A citrine nail polish! I love love love this color right now, although sadly, I'm pretty darn sure if I wore this my pale hands would probably look sickly and gross.
Playing with matte top coats. Matte top coats?! Seriously, my mind is being blown to bits.

EFF YEAH NAIL ART!
(Pardon the less than family friendly language of the title..) I'm finding there's an "Eff Yeah!" tumblr for just about everything! Haha. Tattoos, Nail Art, Sharks.. There's even a search engine dedicated just to them. Anyway, this is a great resource and I've found a lot of great nailspirations here. Including Supa Nails! Browse away my lovelies, browse away...

BURGERS + NAILS
This one's just hilarious.

PS:
INCOCO
This is crazy. I love the French Manicure application video. I used to do French tips all the time. I wonder if it works for shorter nails like mine.  They also have tons of colors and designs here in their shop. Pretty cool. But expensive.

Wooooo. That was a long one. I'm kinda sick of looking at nails now. Hopefully you liked this huge post though! (Sorry to all my male readers.. the approximately 3 of you. I hope ths post is interesting to you as well!)

I forgot to post a link to her website!

Coralie Bickford-Smith

Many glorious novel designs lay in wait for you there.

And these!

The woman is incredible. Look through every category on her site.

judge a book cover: part two

So uh, book covers are great, but so are redesigned book covers!

Coralie Bickford-Smith is amazing.

"Coralie Bickford-Smith is a senior cover designer at Penguin Books,
where she has created several series designs. She studied typography
at Reading university and has recently been sharing her experience with
students at London College of Communication encouraging a sense
of play in the process of design."

Just take a look at some of her amazingness.
This is a series of classic Penguin books she took on. They don't rely on the dust jackets, which I love. The designs are printed right into the hardcovers. These patterns are fun and classic but the color pallete is undeniably modern and I'm smitten.

judge a book cover: part one

I like book covers, yes I do. They're sort of the wild-child cousin of movie posters. They're much freer... More free? ... to do as they please. Which I love. Looking at the book covers when I walk through Borders or Barnes & Noble is one of my favorite things.

These ones are scrummy yummy to my tummy. Actually, just my eyes. I can't seem to get them out of my head lately.

Which is your favorite?

labels

Jessica Peterson is a local photographer. I absolutely love her stuff. Recently, she has started using labels in most of her personal photgraphy.

Awesome.

Talented people make me happy, and also make the world go round.

And seriously, check out her blog. You won't be disappointed - there's some amazing photography happening over there.

Yum, anyone wanna hazard a guess at where a couple pictures: CHIPS + FRIDA where taken? I'd be impressed if you did!
